PATRICIA GILMAN

Photography has changed my life. I began taking pictures, like most of us, when I was young and, also like most of us, have always taken pictures. In 2002 I bought my first digital camera, took a trip around Cape Horn and really fell in love with the art and magic of photography.

Since that trip, I have traveled extensively and taken hundreds upon hundreds of pictures. In 2004 I decided to add some alternatives to my photographs and began printing the photos in black and white then painting them. Primarily I paint a portion of the picture that highlights the entire picture, but on occasion I will use paint on the entire photograph. I use watercolors extensively, but experiment with other media as well.

While I continue to take photographs without necessarily intending to paint them or use other processes, I have begun to learn alternative processes including manipulation using the computer. Polaroid transfer images are a unique process that I have done on many types of paper, fabric and porous tiles. I have begun a portfolio of infra red photographs created on the computer.  There is a gallery dedicated to these images.

Photography is a wonderful addition to a walk in the park or a trip to far reaching worlds. The enhancement of the photographs is a wonderful addition to my sense of artistic creativity.

All of my work is available for special order if the size or colors are not quite what you are looking for. Please contact me for information.
